Planning Data Migrations to Veeva Systems

Data Migrations to Veeva Systems are one of the most challenging IT endeavors for Life Sciences organizations. A need for a Veeva data migration to be performed may arise in situations such as:

  • Digitalization: Migrating from a Paper-based system to Veeva
  • Consolidation: Migrating from different systems to an integrated Veeva Platform
  • Mergers and Acquisitions: Migrating to Veeva Systems due to company acquisition or merger

In order to plan a smooth migration, we recommend some key steps:

Data Source Review:

  • Obtain access to the data source (I.e. database, cloud application, etc.)
  • Review the data and determine which data to migrate or archive

Data Migration Design:

  • Clearly determine the expectations for the format of the data with the business stakeholders
  • Assess data type, data volume, pick lists, and metadata
  • Design the Extract, Transform, Load process
  • Determine the plan for delta loading / how to handle new data that is created during migration

Assess Whether Veeva Loader Sheets Can be Used or a Third Party Tool is Required:

Perform a Dry Run in a Sandbox Environment:

  • Perform a migration of a small subset of data in a Sandbox environment to verify your plan and approach

Review the Quality of Data:

  • Review the data and determine if it has been accurately loaded into the Sandbox
  • Prepare and execute data validation test cases to identify data enrichment requirements
